If it’s your first time at our Grill and Hotpot restaurant, welcome! You’re in for a fun and delicious dining experience. Whether you’re a seasoned BBQ lover or trying tabletop grilling for the first time, this guide will walk you through how to use the grill, avoid common mistakes, and get the most out of every bite. We’ve also packed in some handy tips and tricks straight from our team to make sure your table is sizzling with flavour and good vibes.
Step 1: Preheat
Once you’re seated, our team will switch on the grill for you. Give it a few minutes to heat up properly. A hot grill helps prevent food from sticking and gives you that beautiful char. You’ll know it’s ready when you can feel the heat from a few inches above.
Tip: While you’re waiting, take a look at the menu and start planning what you’d like to cook first. Different proteins have different cook times, so it helps to have a strategy.
Step 2: Oil (But Not Too Much)
Before placing any food down, lightly oil the grill surface using the oil spray or brush provided. This keeps your food from sticking and makes cleaning up easier.
Pro Tip: Avoid pouring oil directly onto the grill. A light mist or brush is enough. Too much oil can create smoke or flare-ups.
Step 3: Know Your Heat Zones
Our grills heat from the center out, so the middle is hotter while the edges are cooler. Place thicker cuts or items that need longer cooking times in the center. Use the edges for veggies, thinner slices, or to rest food that’s almost done.
Tip: If you’re unsure where to place something, ask our staff. We’re always happy to help.
Step 4: Cook Smart and Safe
Make sure to cook all meat, poultry, and seafood thoroughly. We slice everything thin to cook quickly, but always check before eating.
- Beef and lamb: 1 to 2 minutes per side depending on thickness
- Chicken and pork: Slightly longer, 2 to 3 minutes per side
- Seafood: Watch closely, it cooks fast and can overcook easily
Important: Always use separate utensils for raw and cooked foods. We provide multiple tongs for this reason.
Step 5: Don’t Overcrowd
It might be tempting to load up the grill, but giving each piece enough space helps it cook evenly and caramelise properly. Overcrowding lowers the temperature and steams your food instead of grilling it.
Pro Tip: Grill in small batches and keep the rest of your food fresh on the side.
Step 6: Use the Dips and Sauces
Our house-made dipping sauces are the perfect finish for your grilled meats. Cook your food first, then dip. This keeps the sauces clean and gives you the full punch of flavour with every bite.
Tip: Try mixing the garlic, soy, and sesame for a balanced kick. Or ask us for a flavour pairing suggestion!
Bonus Tips for Grill Masters
- Flip only once if possible to lock in juices.
- Clean the grill gently with the brush provided if bits start sticking.
- Want a smoky flavour? Let your meat sit untouched for a few extra seconds before flipping.
